About Us

The UBC-CFNBI program is unique in Canada. CFNBI builds on a decade of biomarker research and infrastructure development initially conducted within the Wellington Lab, which since 2016 supported 70 projects, 142 partners, generated 97,546 biomarker data points, produced 51 publications, and enabled $75M in collaborative research funding. Building on this foundation, CFNBI was established in 2026 as a dedicated, independent 1,400 ft² Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) John R. Evans Leaders Fund-funded facility at UBC Hospital. Equipped with Quanterix HD-X and SP-X, Fujirebio Lumipulse G1200, and Alamar ARGO analytical platforms. CFNBI has already generated an additional 1,039,100 biomarker data points from over 11,900 samples, demonstrating rapid growth and strong demand for scalable biomarker research services. CFNBI’s scale, scope, and commitment to reducing bias and systematic barriers and involving diverse stakeholder groups are major strengths that continually draw new local, national and international collaborators to access CFNBI expertise and infrastructure, exemplified by new projects on monitoring pediatric brain health after major surgery, brain health in space, and the impact of forest fire smoke on brain health.
